Solar Panel Install

At its simplest, solar panels turn sunlight into usable electricity that powers your home and helps reduce your power bills; but there is so much more to them than that!

Every panel installed on your home is essentially:

  • Reducing reliance on the grid
  • Lowering power bills
  • Generating clean energy on-site

A solar panel is like a quiet generator on your roof, powered by the sun, working for you every day. So it’s important you get the right panel from the start.

Solar Concepts has carefully chosen the range of panels we work with, based on our years of experience in the solar industry. Both the REC and Phono panels have great performance and efficiency, low degradation rate, strong warranties with a clear path for support and use up-to-date technology; along with being from tier 1 companies.

Our Solar Panel Range

For residential systems, Phono Solar 475W panels provide the best of the best within a grid-tied design. Offering better production in partial shade and high temperatures, with increased protection against hail and wind storms, plus the benefit of being designed for coastal areas, the 475W Phono Quasar is perfect for the Hawkes Bay region and New Zealand conditions. With a 30-year product and performance warranty, these panels will ensure your system is a great asset for your home.

Our premium panel option, is designed in Europe by REC Group. Our 470W REC Alpha panels are the best option for off-grid systems or where consistent and sustained generation is essential. Working better in low light, with extended warranties and boasting HJT technology, they are the most beautiful work-horse you can get in the solar industry.

Both our panel offerings are Tier 1. This is reserved for panels made by large, proven manufacturers — but the real difference comes down to performance, warranty, and how well the panel suits your home. “Tier 1” does not mean premium or highest efficiency. It means the company is financially stable enough to be trusted by banks.

These companies have high production volume, strong warranties backed by stable companies to support these, good quality control and consistency and are widely used in residential and/or commercial installs. It’s an important aspect when considering a 30 year plus investment.

Solar Install

How a panel generates power is fascinating! There are layers of silicon cells inside each panel, designed to react when sunlight hits them. Sunlight is made up of tiny packets of energy called photons. When these photons strike the surface of a panel, they knock electrons loose within the silicon material. That movement of electrons creates an electric current — this is called the photovoltaic effect.

From there:

  • The panels produce DC (direct current) electricity
  • An inverter converts it into AC power, which your home can use
  • That energy then runs everything from your fridge to your heat pump
